10 Best Beaches Near Montego Bay & Lucea, Jamaica (2026 Guide)

Jamaica's north coast is having a strong comeback season, and the beaches stretching from Montego Bay through Hanover Parish to Negril are exactly why people keep coming back. Here's where locals and longtime visitors actually go swimming.

Beach on Jamaica's north coast near Montego Bay and Lucea

If you're planning a trip to Jamaica's northwest coast in 2026, you're arriving at a good time. Tourism across the island has rebounded strongly after Hurricane Melissa struck western Jamaica in October 2025, and by mid-2026 the vast majority of hotels, attractions and beaches across Montego Bay, Negril and Hanover Parish are open and welcoming visitors again. Negril in particular came through with minimal damage and reopened quickly, while Montego Bay's recovery has taken a little longer in pockets — but the beaches themselves, which are the whole reason people fly in, are back in beautiful shape.

Whether you're staying near the Hip Strip, tucked into a quiet corner of Hanover Parish, or splitting your trip between Montego Bay and Negril, here are the beaches worth building your itinerary around.

1. Doctor's Cave Beach

The most famous beach in Montego Bay, and for good reason. Doctor's Cave has been drawing visitors for over a century thanks to its calm, clear water and soft white sand right along Gloucester Avenue's "Hip Strip." It's easy to reach, well set up with facilities, and ideal if you want a classic postcard swim without any planning.

2. Cornwall Beach

A short walk from Doctor's Cave, Cornwall Beach charges a small entry fee and rewards you with a noticeably calmer, less crowded stretch of sand. The gentle water here makes it one of the better spots in Montego Bay for casual snorkeling.

3. Dead End Beach (Buccaneer Beach)

Away from the cruise-ship crowds, Dead End Beach is where a lot of locals actually spend their Sunday afternoons. It's free, unpolished, and a good reminder that Jamaica's best beaches aren't always the ones with beach clubs attached.

4. Pointe Beach, Lucea

This is the beach we know best — it sits directly across the road from Ocean Escape in Lucea. It's a genuinely local beach: quiet on weekdays, a little livelier on weekends, and never packed with tourists. If you're staying with us, it's a two-minute walk and one of the easiest ways to start or end a beach day without a car.

Want a beach like this one right outside your door? Ocean Escape sits a two-minute walk from Pointe Beach, with a private pool, gym and Starlink wifi in a gated community.

5. Negril's Seven Mile Beach

About 30 minutes from Lucea, Seven Mile Beach is Jamaica's most iconic stretch of sand — a long, uninterrupted run of white beach along the island's western tip. Negril was one of the least damaged areas during Hurricane Melissa and reopened fastest, so this is currently one of the most reliably "business as usual" beach destinations on the island. It's an easy day trip if you're based in Hanover Parish, or worth a full day if you want to see the sunset from Rick's Café at the end of it.

6. Long Bay Beach, Negril

The quieter northern half of Seven Mile Beach, Long Bay tends to be less built-up and better for travelers who want space to spread out a towel without stepping over sunbeds.

7. Tropical Bliss Beach

A smaller, more secluded Montego Bay beach that gets busy only when cruise ships are in port. On quieter days it's one of the better options if you want turquoise water without the Hip Strip crowds.

8. Rose Hall Beach

Close to the Rose Hall resort strip east of Montego Bay, this beach is a good stop if you're combining a beach day with a visit to Rose Hall Great House or the area's golf courses.

9. Sandy Bay & Tryall Coastline

The coastline around Sandy Bay and The Tryall Club, roughly 10–15 minutes from Lucea, mixes quiet public access points with the manicured grounds of Tryall's beach and golf estate. Tryall's course has consistently drawn strong reviews through 2026, and the surrounding coastline is worth a scenic drive even if you're not golfing.

10. Half Moon Beach

East of Montego Bay, Half Moon's crescent-shaped bay is calm and shallow, making it a solid choice for families or anyone who wants an easy, low-effort swim.

Planning your trip in 2026

A few practical notes if this is your first trip to Jamaica this year: travelers from the US, UK and Canada don't need a visa for stays under 90 days, but you will need to complete Jamaica's electronic immigration and customs declaration (C5) before you travel, along with proof of a return ticket. Credit cards are widely accepted, though it's worth carrying some cash for smaller local spots and beach vendors.

On the recovery front: if you're booking a stay in Hanover Parish or western Jamaica generally, it's worth double-checking your specific accommodation's status directly, since some properties in the hardest-hit pockets are still finishing repairs. Independently-run villas — including ours — have generally been quicker to get back up and running than some of the larger resort chains, partly because of smaller, more self-sufficient setups (solar power and satellite internet included).
